You will never be satisfied by work until you are satisfied by life.” These words by Heather Schuck will simply define the balance our life needs.  The biggest challenge as an adult is to do everything by yourself. From performing your best at the job to taking care of yourself and your family to catching up with friends and staying sane, there is always a lot to do. Your work life can easily totally dominate your schedule. As we strive to achieve new heights every day, let’s take out some time for ourselves and have a little fun while we are getting where we need to reach.

1. Have a schedule

You cannot manage your time effectively unless you create a schedule. Everyday block 20 minutes in your day for yourself. Use it for doing something you like, be it reading, listening to your favourite music, watching a TV show or a chat with your mom. When you block your time for different things it will help you organize and do more things than you can actually think of.

2. Know your strengths 

You can wisely manage your time and maintain work life balance if you know categorically what you are good at. If you are not good at accounts or graphic design you can outsource them instead of wasting your time over it. You can instead use this time by catching up with your friends and family.

3. Prioritize, prioritize and prioritize

One of the simplest workstyle hacks to lead a successful life is to write everything down. Have a to-do list and write all your commitments for the day every morning. But just having a to-do list is not enough. Prioritize. You can group your tasks into four groups – Urgent and Important, important but not urgent, urgent but not important, neither urgent nor important. This will give you a sense of clarity as to how to proceed with your day. Say no to people or activities that distract you from your priorities.

4. Know your most productive time of the day 

If you know when you are most productive in a day you can keep your high priority tasks for that time. This will help you to be efficient. If you are a morning person, don’t leave tough tasks for the night and vice versa.

5. Nurture and grow your network 

Your network is your strength. Block your time to grow your network. Socialize and take a break from that monotonous life to maintain work life balance. Most connected people are often the most successful people. Once in while invest your time in growing your network.

6. Don’t multi-task 

Saying ‘no’ to multi-tasking is an integral part of successful workstyle hacks. This can dramatically reduce stress and improve outcomes at work and in your personal life. Be there in the moment. When you are working just WORK. Put off your social media notifications and just focus on the task at the hand. Likewise, when hanging out with family make a rule to not attend work calls. Be truly present from them.

7. No play only work makes Johnny a dull boy

Have a social life. While you usually reserve fun things for the weekends, plan at least one enjoyable activity during the week. You’ll be able to head into your work week with something to look forward to and have a way to blow off some steam if the week starts off too strong. This will definitely help you to maintain work life balance. 

8. Learn how to let go of things

Accept the fact that no matter how hard you try everything cannot be perfect always. Trying to be perfect and be everything to everyone only ensures failure. Learn how to say “no” when it’s warranted. Cut out the things in your life that are stressing you out and it’ll free you up for more important things. Learn to let go and not stress over everything.
